Leadership Coaching in Organizations: Moving from Managing People to Developing People

Are you managing your employees - or helping them grow into their full potential?

Great leadership goes beyond supervising employees, assigning tasks, and evaluating performance. It's about developing people, encouraging growth, and creating a workplace where employees feel empowered to contribute, solve problems, and succeed.

Join Shenandoah Valley SHRM (SVSHRM) on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at Bridgewater College as we welcome Dr. Shenita Brokenburr, Ph.D., SHRM-SCP, SPHR, ICF-PCC, for an engaging and interactive presentation on leadership coaching in today's workplace.

What Will You Learn?

This session introduces coaching as an essential leadership capability—not something reserved exclusively for professional executive coaches.

Dr. Brokenburr will explore the different roles leaders play in the workplace, including manager, mentor, advisor, and coach, and help participants recognize when each approach is most effective.

Attendees will learn a practical coaching conversation framework and have opportunities to practice asking powerful questions, listening for insight, and helping employees take ownership of their solutions.

Key Takeaways:

✅ Lead with Purpose: Understand the differences between managing, mentoring, advising, and coaching - and when to use each approach.

✅ Strengthen Communication: Develop coaching skills through effective questioning, active listening, and meaningful conversations.

✅ Empower Employees: Learn how to encourage employees to take ownership of challenges, decisions, and professional growth.

✅ Build a Coaching Culture: Discover how HR professionals can equip managers to incorporate coaching into performance discussions, employee development, career conversations, and everyday leadership.
